Captain Aaron Delano-Johnson

U.S. Coast Guard Liaison Officer, United States Southern Command

Captain Aaron Delano-Johnson is the U.S. Coast Guard Liaison Officer to U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM). He is a Cutterman and International Affairs Officer having served in five embassy assignments and aboard five Coast Guard cutters in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, including command of USCGC DECISIVE (WMEC 623) and CGC CHANDELEUR (WPB 1319).

With a focus area of the Western Hemisphere, he has served two tours at U.S. Embassy Bogota, Colombia as well as U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince, Haiti, U.S. Embassy Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and started his international career at U.S. Embassy Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia coordinating joint operations while strengthening maritime security and governance.

A member of the Executive Board of the Foreign Area Officer Association (FAOA), he advocates for the Foreign Area Officer community and works to cultivate the professionalism of the FAO career field by serving as Co-Director of the peer reviewed FAOA Journal of International Affairs.

His international affairs studies have included degrees or fellowships with the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Duquesne University, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense & Security, and Universidad Externado de Colombia.
