Colonel John M. Barry is the Chief, Global Bulk Fuel Division, Strategic Plans, Policy, and Logistics Directorate, Headquarters U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. He leads 44 joint personnel to synchronize global bulk fuel planning, posture, operations, and capabilities development for the Department of Defense’s 11.7-billion-dollar Joint Petroleum Enterprise. He collaborates with Joint Staff and U.S. government agencies to develop multi-modal distribution solutions to operationalize a 2.2-billion-gallon inventory and provide bulk fuel command and control and global prioritization for the Joint Force during all phases of competition, crisis, and conflict.
Col Barry entered the Air Force in 2003 as a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is a career Aircraft Maintenance Officer, a graduate/instructor at the U.S. Air Force Advanced Maintenance and Munitions Operations School, AFIT Master’s degree graduate, National War College graduate, and served in a variety of duties maintaining C-17A, A-10C, MQ-1B, MQ-9A, MC-12W, U-28A, HH-60G, RQ-170, B-52H, and multiple variants of the C-130 aircraft.
Col Barry has deployed numerous times in direct support of Operations DEEP FREEZE, IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, FREEDOM’S SENTINEL, and INHERENT RESOLVE. Additionally, Col Barry has served three squadron command tours. Prior to his current assignment, he was the Senior Executive Officer and Chief of Readiness and Logistics, Legislative Liaison, where he was a key link between Congress and Headquarters, U.S. Air Force.
